Valladolid, June 2005.
The Iberian Week is working in the II Eurobass Cup organisation, the competition
disputed between world élite American professionals and European anglers from
Italy, France, Portugal and Spain. The event will be held, as in the last
edition, in the Ricobayo reservoir (Zamora), from the 20th to the 21st of
September.
The Eurobass Cup is conceived as a teams event, Europe
against United States, where in the first edition the American team clearly won,
with a score of nineteen to five.
The presence of champions like Mike Iaconelli and sportsmen,
which hold an important place in the USA classification, like John Murray, Kelly
Jordon, etc. made great interest in the European enthusiasts. They followed with
attention the Eurobass Cup development and all the activities these bass experts
played in the Iberian Week.
Four Spanish, four Portuguese, two Italians and two French
will integrate the team that will display the European “colours” in this second
edition. They are called David Espax, José Luis López, Santiago and Sergio
Longas, Helder Maia, José Mendes da Cruz, Pedro Félix, Herminio Rodrigues, Paolo
Vannini, Stefano Sammarchi, Frédéric Jullian and Frank Rossman.
For the Longas’ brothers it will be theirs first
participation in the Eurobass Cup, the same for Paolo Vannini and Stefano
Sammarchi, whom are doing a great job promoting the bass in Italy, and the
French Frank Rossman. The rest of the European team members participated in the
first Eurobass Cup edition and in the last Iberian Week. In fact the Portuguese
Pedro Félix was the one who obtained the only European point in the last year
first round and Helder Maia achieved the third place in the general
classification, after Iaconelli y Jack A. Gadlage.
The Eurobass Cup is a challenge made by the Iberian Week.
Since its first edition, it keeps an important support in the promotion and
popularisation of the bass by this and other initiatives. Standing out the Latin
Bass Meeting, which is held in the Ricobayo reservoir with around 90 boats, and
seminars given by American and European anglers in the Exhibition Centre
aquarium allow observing techniques, lures and materials that offer better
results to the specialists.

TEAM EUROPE
On the other hand, the European team will be composed of four
Spanish anglers, four Portuguese, two Italian and two French. They are David
Espax, José Luis López, Eloy Fernández, Javier Guillén, Helder Maia, José Mendes
da Cruz, Pedro Félix, Herminio Rodrigues, Paolo Vannini, Stefano Sammarchi,
Frédéric Jullian and Frank Rossman.
This will be the first participation in the Eurobass Cup for
Eloy Fernández, and Javier Guillén from Spain, Paolo Vannini and Stefano
Sammarchi, passionate anglers of bass fishing in Italy, and the Frenchman Frank
Rossman, president of BASS France. The rest of the European team is already
familiar with the Eurobass and Semana Ibérica. In fact, the Portuguese Pedro
Félix was the only European angler to earn a point for the European team in last
year’s first round of competition and Helder Maia achieved third place in the
general classification, after Iaconelli and Jack A. Gadlage.
The development of the Eurobass Cup is an event for anyone
interested in the sport of fishing, from the boat launch to the weigh-in, taking
place at 6:00 p.m. at the boat landing of Ricobayo on the 20th and 21st of
September. This is a place where spectators can access free of charge and see
the intense competition live.
The award ceremony of the Eurobass Cup will take place on Sunday the 25th of
September at the Convention Center of Valladolid, in the Trade Fair setting of
Semana Ibérica and where national and international distributors and
manufacturers will be exhibiting all types of equipment for the practice of
these sports. The most important companies will be present in the 2005 edition.
Furthermore, the Trade Fair Convention Center of Valladolid
will again be the stage for seminars given by American professionals to European
amateurs. This activity, which has been developing since the first calls of
Semana Ibérica, has been converted into a classic given the interest that
arouses among the anglers, allowing us to get to know up close and personal the
techniques and materials the best specialists are using.
